SAFETY

In 1998 Argentina published a new resolution describing
a phased process for the certification of products to
safety standards. This publication and subsequent decrees
are know as RESOLUTION 92/98.
Argentina has authorized two Certification agencies
and three Laboratories. Argentina Customs require Safety
Certificates for products covered by over 600 Tariff
Codes.
The Standards are developed by one of the Certification
Agencies - IRAM. They are based, and in many cases are
copies of European standards.
Generally - Electrical and Electronic products above
50 Volts DC will require certification. One of SIEMIC
services is to determine if a product requires certification.
We analyze the product based on all current requirements,
group it into families that will be listed on the same
certificate, and process all that is necessary in the
shortest time possible.

TELECOM APPROVALS
The Argentinean telecom approval system is complicated,
very formal and very time consuming. All telecom equipment
must be approved by CNC (Comision Nacional de Comunicaciones
/ National Communications Commission).
Testing must be performed in an Argentine test lab,
authorized by CNC. The only suitable lab is CITEI (Centro
de Investigationsen Telecomunicaciones e Informatica)
who are part of INTI (Instituto Nacional de Informatica).
The applicant company has to be registered in both
the Activities register and the materials register for
telecom equipment. This registration takes approx one
month to obtain.
The complete application and the technical test report
must be countersigned by a registered engineer, who
is listed on the National Professional Bureau (Consejo
Profesional Nacional), a list of engineers available
for this can be obtained from COPITEC (Consejo Profesional
de Inginieria de Telecomunicaciones)
All applications, user manuals, technical manuals must
be submitted in Spanish language.
Manufacturers have to complete a declaration that includes
the obligation to provide buyers with the same technical
documentation that was submitted to the approval authority.
From 1st Jan 2001 a new method for registration at RAMATEL
takes effect.
Using SIEMIC services you will
know what is required for packaging, documentation and
labeling and when the certification process will be complete.
SIEMIC is the most cost effective, efficient source for
product certification in Argentina.
